David Grimes

I have always enjoyed dance of some sort and music, from country dancing in primary school to the 6th form where I learned ballroom dancing. My great grandmother was Scottish and lived in Edinburgh. In 1989 Jenny and I were invited to a Clitheroe Caledonian society Bruns Night and went along as it sounded good fun. We did have good fun and then we joined the society. We attended classes when we were able to do so, around our family and work commitments. I'm a keen gardener and allotment holder as well as enjoying our family of three children and six grandchildren. I was elected vice president of the society 2 years ago and President in 2026. We are also members of U3A Clitheroe, and so with links to both societies helped set up a monthly ceilidh group to let more people enjoy the fun and friendship of dancing. If they enjoy it they might come along and learn more with the dancing classes of the Clitheroe & District Caledonian Society.

I was brought up in Belfast, Northern Ireland and always liked the music and dancing, although I never took part. In 1989 David and I were invited to a Clitheroe Caledonian Society Burns Night and went along as it sounded good fun. We did have good fun and then joined the society, attending when we were able around our other family and work commitments. I have been secretary of the society since 2024. I enjoy the music, dancing, friendship and fun of both the dance classes and other activities throughout the year. We are keen gardeners as well as enjoying our family of three children and six grandchildren. We are members of U3A Clitheroe and so with links to both societies, I helped set up a monthly ceilidh group to let more people enjoy the fun and friendship of dancing,. If they enjoy it they might come along and learn more with the Clitheroe & District Caledonian Scottish Society.
